Ruta Tsegezeab – A valuable internship experience at the Heinz Foundation

My name is Ruta Tsegezeab , I am 23 years old and proud mother of two children. I am currently following the training Caregiver IG at the Vista College in Maastricht , where I am now in the second year.

In the week of April 6, 2024, I was allowed to participate in a care holiday organized by the Heinz Special Holiday Travel Foundation . This special experience left a deep impression on me and enriched me both personally and professionally.

Learning in a unique healthcare environment

During this week I had the opportunity to actively participate in the daily care and guidance of our guests. I learned how important clear and warm communication is in care. In addition, I was allowed to perform some nursing technical actions under supervision, which for me was a valuable and educational addition to my education.

A special moment was working a night shift , where I could experience a different side of care. It gave me insight into how important it is to be alert, calm and caring at night.

Connecting through attention and activities

Every day I went for walks with guests, we had fun together and participated in different activities. The contact with the guests was very special to me – the conversations, the laughing together, listening to their stories. It gave me great satisfaction to give them a good time and at the same time learn so much myself.

Highly recommended for every student

This internship week was more than a learning experience for me; it was a week in which I encountered myself, grew in my profession and discovered how much fun it is to really be there for someone. The guidance was great and I felt welcome in the team from the start.

I highly recommend other students to also take a trip with Stichting Heinz. You learn a lot, are well supervised and gain an experience that you will remember - both for your education and for life.

Thank you Heinz Foundation for this unforgettable opportunity!
